Keep the Focus on Yourself | 自分にフォーカスを保持 | Servo Focuus in Vestri

"...PUTTING OUT OF OUR MINDS THE WRONGS THE OTHERS HAD DONE, WE RESOLUTELY LOOKED FOR OUR OWN MISTAKES..."

"...WHERE HAD WE BEEN SELFISH, DISHONEST, SEFLISH, DISHONEST, SELF-SEEKING AND FIGHTENED?...WHERE WERE WE TO BLAME? THE INVENTORY WAS OURS, NOT THE OTHER MAN'S"...
-Alcohoics Anonymous, p67

Funny, but the longer I'm in AA the truer the olderst and simplest expressions become.  I've been working with a new sponsor here in LA simply because I need a God with skin sometimes, and the old man is way back in Long Island, and he is not feeling that well.

So, I'm back in the 4019 club again, this time of my own volition, and I bring my Big Book with me to every meeting for two reasons:

  1. I keep my spare change in there.  I must admit I'm a bit of a fusspot when it comes to the care and feeding of my wallet and do not like to keep it crammed with bills, so there's always a supply of money for the basket in there
  2. Every time I feel like giving my opionion on how another AA member should work our Program, I scan the first 164 pages for the many places where the Book tells me to - you got it - keep the focus on myself.
I've been pretty hard on that room when in all fairness my anger has been misplaced;  for many reasons I've been angry at myself and taking it out on them.  For me to condem a meeting of AA is to play God, a role I am ill equipped to assume.

An old AA saw goes:  "...anytime you point your finger at anyone, you have three pointing back".  Truer words have never been spoken.  I like the man I see in the mirror, though all I can see is what he needs to do better.

A close friend urged me to stop blogging in December and focus on my schoolwork, and she was right.  Now that I've got a clearer head I think I am going to pick this up and see where it goes.

The joy is in the journey.

God bless us all, every one.
